Marine
and offshore insulation worldwide
 |
ROCWOOL
A/S has for many years been one of the leading supplies of
fire insulation for the international marine and offshore
sector.
ROCKWOOL
A/S offers a wide range of specially developed products and
constructions which have been tested and approved according
to the latest standards and by all major clasiffication societies.
There
are stringent requirements of insulation materials to be used
in the marine and offshore sector. For the sake of both safety
and funcionality it is of párticulary great importance
that the products have good properties in respect of fire
insulation, water repellence and sound reduction.
ROCKWOOL
marine and offshore insulation is made of stone wool, which
possesses superior properties in these very fields. |
Rockwool
insulation all over
On
account of the unique properties of the ROCKWOOL insulation and
specially developed products, ROCKWOOL insulation can with advantage
be used everywhere.
This
applies e.g. to:
Deck and bulkhead constructions
Engine rooms
Pipe and air ducts
Doors and panels
Floating floors
Fire
properties
The
ROCKWOOL products are based on stone wool, which cannot burn and
which can stand temperatures up to 1000 degrees C without melting.
Thus
ROCKWOOL stone wool provides the best guarantee for an effective
fire protection on board ships and offshore plattforms.
Approvals
All
ROCKWOOL A/S has chosen Det Norske Veritas which consequently guarantees
our quality
Research
and develoment
ROCKWOOL
A/S is a member of the ROCKWOOL group, which is the world's largest
manufacturer of stone wool.
Intensive
research and develoment efforts mean that our products and constructions
are continously being developed and improved to meet our customer's
wishes and needs both today and in the future.
Bulkhead
 |
ROCKWOOL A/S
markets a wide range of solutions for different types od H
& A contructions. This applies to constructions of both
aluminium and steel - and whether they have to be insulated
against fire on one side or both sides.
Constructions
and products have been developed so that they will both meet
the stringent fire requeriments and comply with the costumers'
needs and wishes for thickness, weight and ease of installation. |

|
Deck
In
addition to fire insulation of bulkheads, the required fire safety
is obtained by dividing the construction into fireproof decks. In
the case od decks it is of decisive importance that there is space
for pipes and technical installations

Comfort
insulation
The
requirements fo the indoor climate and comfort have become more
stringent in recent years. The insulation constitudes an important
factor of this as it helps to create the correct temperature - as
comfort insulation.
The
insulation used for this purpose must, beside having a good insulating
power, also be non-combustible and water repelent as iti is often
placed directly up against the outer construction.

ROCKWOOL A/S markets
a number of different, special products for confort insulation,
partly as batts and partly as rolls, and both with and without facing
Pipe
insulation
 |
Pipe
insulation is rarely visible, but often decisive for the confort
on board. At the same time pipe insulation is neccesary to
reduce the suirface temperature on the pipes so that people
working in the engine room are not injured by contact with
the hot pipes.
To
prevent corrosion and blokage of pipes in product tankers
it can further more be decisive to avoid too great a heat
loss from the pipe.
ROCKWOOL
A/S has a wide choice of solutions for pipe insulation, which
satisfy all these requirements, for a large pipes as well
as for small pipes. One example is Marine Universal Pipe Section
a flexible Pipe Section - which ensures a quick and effective
installation without cutting, also round elbows. |
Air
conducts
Many
requeriments are today made of air ducts. Most important is that
the confort on board the ship is considered and that you do not
compromise the fire safety.
In
connection with ventilation of cabins and other rooms it must furthermore
be ensured that no condensation is formed and that the required
temperature is maintained all the time. This is obtained by using
one of the ROCKWOOL marine products.
Tanks
Tanks
to be insulated comprise both small tanks and large tanks
such as gas tanks
Tanks
often require insulation in two layers to prevent any gaps
in the insulation, which can result in heat loss or cooling
of the tank
ROCKWOOL
products ensure tight joints as the products can easily be
butted.
As
in the case of fire constrcutionsit also applies to insulation
of pipes ans tanks that the material must be non-combustoble
according to IMO A799(19) |
 |
Floating
floors
 |
To
obtain a good comfort a good sound absorption is required
between yhe individual decks. To prevent noise - particulary
impact sound - from traveling from one room to another you
must use an insulation solution that has the necesary rigidity,
elasticity, and sound absorption. For this purpose ROCKWOOL
A/S has developed and for many years marketed Marine Slab
140.
To
be used together with Marine Slab 140 a number of companies
have developed a load spreading board.
This
provides a soundproof construction. which allows for the use
of different materials.
These
solutions are extensively used on cruise liners where stringent
requeriments are made in order that people can stay and enjoy
their cruise without being bothered by noise. |
Panels
For
the sake of the fire safety owners and producers of ship's
panels and living quarters often require the core of the panels
to consist of stine wool.
For
that pupose ROCKWOOL A/S has together with costumers developed
a great many special products possesing high compressive strength
as well as great fire resistance, and which have been approved
as non-combustible according to IMO's latest regulation.
If
you as a producer of panels and ceilings choose Rockwool marine
product, you are given a good start towards obtaining an ooptimal
en result.
ROCKWOOL
A/S supplies partly raw materials for cutting in to lamellas,
pártly ready-cut lamellas, which can be glued direct
to the panel.
The
stone wool used can be of different types, depending on the
requirements as to fire safety, comnpression stability etc |
 |
Facings

|
There
are many reasons for choosing insulation products with facings.
It is generally done tio obtain a vapour barrier, which prevents
formation of condensation of the cold side of a construction.
ROCKWOOL A/S con for this purpose offer a number of products
faced with a reinforced alu foil, which ensures a strong surface.
In
addition to this, ROCKWOOL A/S can offer products with a glass
fabric, which often provides a cheaper and lighter construction.
These products are typically used for a car decks, air-conditioning
plants, engine rooms, lift shafts or the like. |
Tape
| A
self-adhesive tape is used for the product with alu foil as
an external vapour barrier in connection with the joints. To
make sure that our alu tape meets the same requeriments as those
of the facing, it has been tested in respect of low flame spread |

Rockwool
A/S has developed a special range of marine products, which
meet the requeriments of IMO's regulation at any time. For
all constructions there is consequently a Rockwool solution
that has the required approval

The
choice of class of different constructions depends partly on the
type of unit and partly on the placing of the construction on board.
These matters are described in more detail in SOLAS's regulation.
When
the correct class has been identified, the type and thickness of
the insulation can be found by means of the above table.
Generally,
al our constructions have been approved according to Council Directive
96/98 EC-MED.
On
our web site www.rockwool-marine.com you will frthermore find a
list of other authorities and classification societies whichhave
approved our constructions.
The
above tables show the different Rockwool constructions. If you need
information about other constructions please do not hesitate to
